This is something i agree with.. when talking about rape in video games..

Ever think that the reason that it's portrayed that way is because that's the reality of the situation. Males are more likely to be the sexual aggressor in any situation, be it consensual or not. Unless you're dealing with a whole army of homosexual bad guys of course that's a threat to a heroine as opposed to a hero. It's not doing anything but reflecting reality. Men are sexually aggressive. If we weren't, there would be alot less humans in this world. It's reflected in the animal kingdom as well. A male dog will hump just about anything at any time. A female dog will only want sex when she's in heat. So don't go around acting like this is scandalous or new, because it's not. Anytime the males of a species have sex for pleasure, rape is involved. Dolphins rape as well...just so you know.
Bad guys in games are BAD GUYS. That means that they are likely to do things that regular guys wouldn't do. So big surprise when they try to or threaten to rape the heroine. They are supposed to. Actually it's more unrealistic when they don't express that desire, because it's there...or atleast it should be. I'm not saying all villians are rapist, but it's not a huge jump and some villians in the army of bad guys who are killed, will be rapist. And the rapist villians are usually seen as that much worse than the regular villian. Infact that should be leveraged for emotional response. Men respond more violently to rapist than they do to murderers. Think about prison, rapist get it far worse than other types of inmates. Women also see rapist as much more of a threat than a regular villian. Anyone can kill you, but it takes a special kind of bastard to rape someone.
As games try to be more realistic and more mature, they will touch these themes. The strong response to this villian attempting to rape Lara Croft is just a sign that the medium is maturing. Honestly, it should've been being attempted long before this point. This is were it gets real, where they put a Lara Croft in a situation where it's implied that a consequence that a real woman might face in the same situation, my occur unless she takes action. That happens all the time in games. Men get their families threatened or killed, they girlfriends or wives taken. All sorts of things happen to men and no one blinks and eye.
May I propose that the writer of this article is sexist, not because he cares about what happens to Lara, but because he doesn't care as much about what has happened to countless men before this instance in Lara's life.
BTW: I think Dead Island handled the topic of rape very well.
